Short Biography

Daniel Obermaier

will serve as Acting Director of the Institute for Strategy, Technology, and Organization at LMU beginning in

April 2026. Prior to joining LMU, he served as Assistant Professor of Information Systems at Nova School of Business and Economics, Universidade NOVA de Lisboa, and as a Visiting Scholar and Postdoctoral Researcher at NYU Stern. He received his Ph.D. from the Technical University of Munich, where he was part of the Research Excellence Program and was awarded the TUM Best Dissertation Award in 2023.

His primary research interest lies in understanding how emerging technologies reshape economic forces on digital platforms and influence platform governance. His current work applies a range of causal inference methods to study the impact of blockchain technology and artificial intelligence on digital platforms.

Daniel has published his research, among other outlets, in MIS Quarterly and regularly presents his work at leading information systems and management conferences, including the International Conference on Information Systems, the Conference on Information Systems and Technology, the Workshop on Information Systems and Economics, the Strategic Management Society Annual Conference, and the Academy of Management Annual Meeting.
